How to use your AutoTrader, Gumtree, Cazoo or CarGurus page as your stock

4 min6 stepsFor: Sellers with adverts on AutoTrader, Gumtree, Cazoo or CarGurusUpdated

In DealerToolkit Settings, open "Stock feed", choose "My listings page" and paste the link to your own dealer or seller page on AutoTrader, Gumtree, Cazoo or CarGurus. Press "Run feed" and allow the site once. DealerToolkit reads your adverts in your own Chrome at a normal browsing pace, then you tick the cars and post them to Facebook Marketplace.

  1. Copy the link to your own page

AutoTrader: open your dealer page on autotrader.co.uk (search for your business, or open one of your adverts and follow the link to your dealer page). The link starts https://www.autotrader.co.uk/dealers/ and ends with your business name and a number, for example …/dealers/west-yorkshire/halifax/your-business-12345678.

Gumtree: open one of your adverts and click your name. Your seller page link looks like https://www.gumtree.com/profile/account/… and works for private sellers as well as dealers.

Cazoo: open your dealer page. The link looks like https://www.cazoo.co.uk/dealers/your-business-12345/.

CarGurus: open one of your listings on cargurus.co.uk and follow the link to your dealership’s page. The link looks like https://www.cargurus.co.uk/Cars/m-Your-Business-sp123456.

Tip:Use the page that shows all of your own cars, not a search results page or a single advert. Only use a page that belongs to you or your business.

  2. Paste it into Settings, "Stock feed"

In the DealerToolkit side panel, open Settings, then "Stock feed". Choose "My listings page" and paste your link into "Your AutoTrader, Gumtree, Cazoo or CarGurus page".

Press "Save settings". You only do this once.

  3. Press "Run feed" and allow the site once

On the Stock tab, press "Run feed". The first time, Chrome asks you to allow DealerToolkit to read that one site; choose Allow.

DealerToolkit opens your page in a tab in your own Chrome and reads your adverts one page at a time, pausing 1.5 to 4 seconds between pages, like someone clicking through their own stock. Leave the tab open until it finishes.

Tip:A large stock is read over a few runs the first time: up to 60 new cars per run. After that only new cars and price changes are read, so later runs take a minute or two.

  4. Check what was read

Each car comes in with its make, model, variant, year, mileage, price, fuel, gearbox, body type, colour, doors, seats, engine size, your own description and its photos. The number plate and MOT date come in where the site shows them (Cazoo and CarGurus).

Features come from the extras you added on AutoTrader and from Cazoo’s features list. Generic option tags and standard-equipment lists are left out, so your description lists what you chose to highlight.

Facebook takes up to 20 photos. When a car has more, press "Choose" under the car to pick which 20 to use.

  5. Post the cars to Facebook Marketplace

Tick the cars under "Needs posting" and press "Post selected". DealerToolkit fills in each Facebook listing and uploads the photos, then stops on the first page so you can check them before pressing Next. You press Publish.

  6. Run it again when your stock changes

Press "Run feed" whenever you add or sell cars, for example each morning. Cars that have gone from your page move to "Sold", and cars whose price changed move to "Price changed", each with a one-click button to update Facebook.

Questions about this guide

Do I need a stock feed if I use my listings page?

No. Your own AutoTrader, Gumtree, Cazoo or CarGurus page is enough: DealerToolkit reads your stock from it each time you press "Run feed". A stock feed from your DMS is still the better choice where you have one, because it carries every detail without reading a website.

How long does the first run take on a large stock?

DealerToolkit reads up to 60 new cars per run, pausing 1.5 to 4 seconds between pages, so a forecourt of 150 cars is fully read after three runs. After that it reads only new cars and price changes, and a run takes a minute or two.

What happens if the site asks me to prove I am human?

DealerToolkit stops reading straight away, leaves the tab open on that page and shows a desktop alert. It never tries to get past a site’s check. When the page shows normally again, press "Run feed" and it carries on.

Does DealerToolkit read the number plate and MOT date from my adverts?

Yes, where the site shows them: Cazoo and CarGurus pages include the number plate and MOT date, and DealerToolkit reads both. To show them in your Facebook listings, add the {reg} and {mot_expiry} placeholders to your description layout.

Can I use another dealer’s page?

No. Use only a listings page that belongs to you or your business. DealerToolkit is made to put your own adverts on Facebook Marketplace, and its terms of use say the same.
