Facebook Marketplace for UK car dealers
UK car dealers can sell on Facebook Marketplace by listing each vehicle through the standard vehicle form on a personal profile. There is no official bulk upload for UK dealers. Listings need clear photos, an accurate price and mileage, and a statement that you are a trader. Post steadily rather than in large bursts.
Can dealers sell cars on Facebook Marketplace?
Yes. Dealers list cars on Facebook Marketplace using the same "Vehicle for sale" form as everyone else, from a personal Facebook profile. Facebook’s Commerce Policies describe Marketplace as intended mainly for consumer-to-consumer sales, and in some regions outside the UK commercial sellers can have Marketplace access suspended, but UK dealers listing their own vehicles accurately are a common sight on Marketplace.
What changed for dealers (2021 to 2025)
| Date | Change | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 13 September 2021 | Free dealer inventory feeds onto Marketplace ended in several countries, the UK included | Stock can no longer be pushed onto Marketplace by a feed for free |
| 30 January 2023 | Vehicle listings and inventory tabs removed from Facebook Business Pages | Cars are listed from a personal profile using the vehicle form |
| 6 April 2025 | Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 unfair practices rules take effect | Traders must make it clear they are a business |
Facebook also runs a Marketplace partner listing programme, but it covers only certain European Union and EFTA countries, not the United Kingdom. There is no public Facebook API a UK dealer can use to create Marketplace vehicle listings.
The trader disclosure law
Since 6 April 2025, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 lists, as a banned practice, falsely claiming or creating the impression that a trader is a consumer. For a dealer on Facebook Marketplace this means every listing should make it obvious you are a business, for example by naming the business in the description: "Sold by Smith Motors Ltd, Halifax".
DealerToolkit never adds wording automatically, because private sellers use it too. Dealers add their trader line once in the description layout and it then appears on every listing. See setting up your descriptions.
How many cars can you post?
Facebook does not publish a number. Its spam rules target content posted at very high frequency or by scripts, and accounts that post many near-identical listings quickly can see listings hidden or Marketplace access restricted. Sensible habits:
- New accounts: start with 2 to 5 listings a day for the first week, then build up.
- Established accounts: around 10 a day is common, split into two or three sittings.
- Space them out: a minute or more between listings looks like a person, not a script.
- Remove sold cars promptly and keep prices current.
DealerToolkit builds these habits in: one car at a time, a random 1 to 3 minute wait between cars, and limits per sitting and per day. See posting limits and account safety.
What makes a great car listing
- Up to 20 photos, best exterior shot first, then interior, dashboard with mileage, wheels and any marks.
- A clear title. Facebook builds it from year, make and model, so put the engine and trim in the model field: "Golf 1.5 TSI Life".
- Accurate price and mileage. Buyers filter by both. Price against the live market with DealerPricing so the car sells without leaving money on the table.
- Every menu filled: body style, colour, condition, fuel and gearbox all power Marketplace filters.
- A structured description: key specification, history, MOT, what is included (warranty, finance, part exchange) and who is selling.
- Fresh listings: many dealers relist a car about every 7 days, as listings get less visibility with age.
Ways to get stock onto Marketplace
| Method | Time per car | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| By hand | Several minutes | Free | Fine for a few cars; slow for a forecourt |
| Listing tool in your browser (DealerToolkit) | Seconds to check and publish | Subscription | Fills the form and photos from your stock; you press Publish |
| Server bots posting for you | None | Varies | Different location and device from your normal use; higher risk to your account |
| Automotive Inventory Ads | None after set-up | Paid advertising | Official, but these are adverts, not free listings |
Marketplace listings vs Automotive Inventory Ads
Automotive Inventory Ads are Facebook’s official, paid way to show a dealer’s stock. You upload a vehicle catalogue and pay for adverts, which can appear on Marketplace and elsewhere. Free Marketplace listings are made one by one through the vehicle form. Many dealers use both: free listings for local reach, and ads to target buyers further away.
Questions
Can car dealers use Facebook Marketplace in the UK?
Yes. UK car dealers can list vehicles on Facebook Marketplace using the vehicle listing form from a personal Facebook profile. Vehicle listings from Business Pages were removed in January 2023, and free dealer inventory feeds ended in 2021, so each car is listed through the standard form.
Is there a limit on how many cars I can list on Facebook Marketplace?
Facebook does not publish a limit. Accounts that post many listings very quickly can have listings hidden or Marketplace access restricted. A common approach is 2 to 5 listings a day on new accounts and around 10 a day on established accounts, spread through the day.
Do dealers have to say they are a business on Facebook Marketplace?
Yes. Since 6 April 2025, under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, a trader must not give the impression of being a private seller. Include your business name or a clear statement that you are a dealer in every listing.
What is the best way to list lots of cars on Facebook Marketplace?
Use a listing tool that fills in the Facebook form from your stock feed, such as DealerToolkit. Facebook has no bulk upload for UK vehicle listings, so a tool that completes each form and uploads the photos for you is the fastest way to list a full forecourt.
