How to set up your listing descriptions

5 min5 stepsFor: EveryoneUpdated

In DealerToolkit Settings, open "Description". Write your layout once using placeholders such as {year}, {make}, {mileage} and {price}, pick a bullet style or emoji, and add points you want on every post, like warranty or part exchange. The live preview shows the result on a real car from your feed.

  1. Open Settings, then "Description"

The description layout is shared by every listing, so your posts stay consistent. You set it up once.

  2. Write your layout with placeholders

    Type the text you want, and click a placeholder button to insert vehicle details where the cursor is: {year}, {make}, {model}, {variant}, {mileage}, {price}, {fuel}, {transmission}, {colour}, {body}, {doors}, {engine}, {mot_expiry}, {owners}, {description}, {features} and more.

Split a line into parts with " | ". Any part whose details are missing is left out, so "{mileage} miles | {fuel} | {colour}" never shows empty gaps.

  3. Choose bullets and emojis

Pick what appears in front of each feature and point: a dot, a dash, ✅, ✔️, ➡️, 🔹, ⭐, 🚗, 🔥, 👉, or none. You can also type any emoji you like.

Use the emoji buttons to add 🚗, 📞, 📍, 💷 and others anywhere in your text.

  4. Add points for every post

In "Points for every post", add one line per point, for example "6 months warranty" or "Part exchange welcome". They appear wherever you put {points}.

Add optional opening and closing text, for example "📞 Call us today".

Tip:Nothing is added to your descriptions automatically. If you are a business, UK law requires you to make it clear you are a trader, so dealers should include their business name or a line such as "Sold by [business name], a registered motor dealer".

  5. Check the preview and save

The preview at the bottom shows your layout filled in with the first car in your feed. When you are happy, press "Save settings".
